Erika Roberts

Erika Roberts is a Hartford, CT, native who is passionate about making a positive impact in her community and the neighborhoods where she grew up. As a result, she’s spent her career working for nonprofit organizations that help at-risk youth.

In 2017, she found her passion as a youth mentor and advocate for Compass Youth Collaborative where she helps youth navigate day-to-day challenges and build the skills they need to become successful adults. Erika relates to some of their struggles having overcome similar obstacles, and she works hard to serve as a role model and inspiration.

Engaging with young people who remind her of her younger self has changed the course of her career and given her a greater sense of purpose. What she loves most about being a mentor is giving youth a sense of direction by raising their expectations while promoting peace within the community. Erika founded a consulting business -- Black Class Enterprises -- that focuses on developing mindfulness, intentionality, compassion, and determination in urban teenage girls.

Erika also makes time for traditional African dancing and drumming. She learned to express herself through dance and drum under the tutelage of Sankofa Kuumba Cultural Arts Consortium.
